Object Digitization

IU3D is the Initiative to Understand, Document, Digitize, and Distribute 3D content. This effort aims to centralize 3D digitization expertise, share learned experience, and grow 3D digitization impact for the IU community and beyond.

Scan your world: Options for Object Digitization

Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry uses 2D photos to create a 3D model by using software that stitches the images together. At IU, we leverage our HPC systems to process models on Research Desktop using Agisoft Metashape.

Structured Light Scanning

Digitization of objects using a GoScan Structured Light Scanner to create a 3D model. The GoScan scanning systems are useful when 3D surface data needs to be acquired quickly and accuracy trumps texture quality. These systems use structured light and proprietary software to acquire objects from a half inch cubic volume up to a ten foot cubic volume.

Multi-view Imaging

By using a rig with multiple cameras, the speed of 360-degree and photogrammetric capture can be significantly sped up.
